Floyd Against Drugs recently donated $600 to the Floyd County Police Department to purchase impairment simulation goggles, an important tool for driver safety education. These goggles will be used in local schools and at community events to demonstrate the dangerous effects of impaired driving in a safe, controlled environment.

The goggles can be adjusted to simulate different levels and types of impairment—including alcohol and drug use—helping both new and experienced drivers understand how impairment affects motor skills, reaction time, and decision-making. This interactive approach is a powerful reminder that safe driving requires full attention and coordination.

The donation directly supports the department’s efforts under the H.E.A.T. Grant from the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety, which focuses on community engagement and promoting responsible driving practices.

Representing the Floyd County Police Department in the presentation were (left to right) Chief Mark Wallace, Capt. Greg Dobbins, Pfc. Dale Johnson (SRO at Coosa), Sgt. William Wacker (SRO at Armuchee), Pfc. Casey Forrister (HEAT Unit), Sgt. Jeramy Penny (HEAT Unit Supervisor), and Capt. Ron Hunton (Commander over the SROs and HEAT Unit). FAD Board Members Michelle Edmondson and Diane Warner attended on behalf of the organization.
